We are now a week into NaNoWriMo, and so far I am pleasantly surprised with myself.
I got together with some writer friends on Halloween to usher in the new month. They must have inspired me a lot, because I started out strong with over 1500 words in the first hour and a half of November first. Before the frist twenty-four hours had passed, I had written over four thousand words. I’ve been chugging away at my laptop ever since.
This morning I reached 15,000 words, which puts me two full days ahead of schedule. The NaNoWriMo site projects that at my current rate I will hit the winning 50k mark by Black Friday. So hopefully my novel will end up around 60k, with plenty of room to add another 5-10k during the rewrite portion!
Numbers aside, let’s talk about my novel on a more personal level. I am so happy to finally get back into Rahab’s life and see what happened to her directly after the events of Into the Flames.
I think the secret to why I’m doing so well word count-wise is simply because I’m having so much fun writing that I don’t want to stop.
I’ve always known how Rahab’s life turned out, in a general, futuristic sense, but I’ve never really stopped to think how that very first use of their powers together in one scene would really effect them. Either Rahab individually or she and her friends as a group. And so far, I’m loving how things are going.
There’s Rahab wistfully moping around, Scout being hyper about everything, Bracken being sullen about everything, and Hawkins trying to ease tensions on all sides while also trying to bring everyone together to “solve crime.” What’s not to love?
I’ve been posting excerpts and tidbits on my facebook fan page. Check it out if you are not already a fan.
Until later, readers! Write on!
