About the blog

It was a dark and stormy night.

Snoopy and typewriterWhen most people hear this phrase, they think of Snoopy and his continuous attempts to write a novel.  However, the phrase was first penned by Edward Bulwer-Lytton in 1830.  The phrase has come to represent the style of writing of that time period—flowery, over the top, and over-stylized (this is known as purple prose). I could rant for ages, but suffice it to say, let me just state that “It was a dark and stormy night” is not a good way to start a book.

This blog is my search for good books–books that we can’t put down becuase we’re so engrossed in the plot, books with characters that we wish we could be and will remember forever, books with words that we want to read through again and again because they just sound so beautiful. These books come in all sizes, shapes, and genres. I will never be able to read them all, but at least  I can try.

As I read through these books and share with you my own journey into publication, I ask you to join me. You may disagree with me or have something brilliant to add. Please do. Let’s take this journey together into the world of literature!
